Welcome to ART WATCH
ArtWatch is a service whereby artists in the SSMB community regularly have their work critiqued by the site itself. Art Watch was founded in 2004 by an SSMB member. Under the name of SpriteWatch, it quickly gained official placement by Roareye.
Since that time, SpriteWatch became a phenomenon of showcasing the latest in pixel art potential, growing to a larger state in 2007 when the SSN website itself evolved to host it. In October 2007, Sonic Spriters Network converted to Sonic Showcase Network to host more varieties of artforms, and as such SpriteWatch's name was altered to accomodate it.

This is the section for those artists that have made an impression in the art community. Each person will have their own topic and, of course, their unique individual style and approach to the artform. Those featured here are some of the best that is currently offered. The artwork here is NOT for your personal use, it is shown to be a credit to the artist's talents and to hopefully inspire your artwork. Any copying or editting of this work without the express permission of the artist is theft and will not be tolerated.

GrooveWatch Downloads Available!
Roareye Black ; 26th April 08
GrooveWatch started it's run earlier this year on February 1st 2008, as a part of The Tiger's Eye Radio show. Written by Shadow Urtheart and presented by Roareye Black, the show quickly became a runaway success with music fans and artists alike. This, as well as several improvements in Roareye's technical gear (Allowing him to extend The Tiger's Eye to a later time - namely 8.30pm UK London time), allowed GrooveWatch to start up as it's own standalone show on the 25th April 2008.

Repeating a GrooveWatch from a lost episode of Tiger's Eye, this episode has been issued as "Episode 0" due to it being a remake, and also not on the usual designated time of GrooveWatch. There will be the first official GrooveWatch show next week on May 2nd 2008, at 8pm UK London time, which will be the main kickstart to the series.

The show will be written and hosted by Shadow Urtheart and will include some of the best or most improving musicians from the SSN community, and will critique those artists in detail and without bias.
If you wish to hear older GrooveWatch shows, or simply cannot tune in at the alloted time, then have no fear. The official SSN GrooveWatch downloads page will be updated regularly with each episode, usually the same night as it's broadcast, on rare occassions it may take a day for the show to be uploaded. Either way within 24 hours of the live show you'll be able to download and listen to each episode as you like :3

For those interested, this has also begun happening with The Tiger's Eye, with a downloads page dedicated to it allowing you all the benefits of Roareye's music knowledge and broadcasting (and lack of technical) skills.

ArtWatch Site Now Online
Roareye Black ; 22nd January 08
ArtWatch's area on the SSN site has been small and slightly restrictive, especially now we've got five different Watch types on the way.

Well that's no longer an issue. The pages of ArtWatch on the SSN website have had some alterations, which were announced in the previous update. The main ArtWatch page now houses News updates such as this one (Titled as =NewsWatch=, tho it's just me being fancy we don't actually critique the news tongue.gif Tho feel free to reply here for gawds sake, the other topic was so cold with no replies ;_; ), while the actual Art Watches will be on their own respective pages.

Once on the NewsWatch mainpage (Which has the history of ArtWatch), simply look at the sidebar to see the five different Watches laid out in front of you. Click any of them to see updates for that specific artstyle (As well as a short explaination on what each Watch type covers), all rendered on the one page.

You may have to wait a month for all the types to have something in them. Remembering that we update the Watches weekly with different Watches, the next one being in two days (ArtWatch and/or SpriteWatch update from Strong Bad) means that you can come here regularly and expect something new to view/read/listen to. happy.gif By the 8th of February (Which is when WriteWatch gets it's first update - the last Watch to appear out of the five) we'll have something in every catagory, and then it's simply checking that art style every month, or the Watch area as a whole every week biggrin.gif

Hope you like the changes, feel free to leave your thoughts here.

ArtWatch NEWS
Roareye Black ; 16th January 08
A couple of you may have noticed a very surprising ArtWatch rear it's head on these very forums lately. Namedly, the new GameWatch feature. Well, to keep you cherubs Feeling The Shatner, this is one of three new variations on the old SpriteWatch theme.

Y'see, SpriteWatch was an awesome idea created to help the cream of new art to get noticed on a board that, quite frankly, had become a popularity contest. It helped new Spriters and Pixel artists get a wider audience and become popular themselves through their continuous effort of expression.
Well, since opening SSN into Showcase for all art, SpriteWatch has been undergoing some major rethought behind the scenes. Here is what you can expect from the SSN Team in terms of Watch content;

=GrooveWatch=
Roareye will be critiquing the music of one or two musicians on SSN. The tracks will be played and the critique spoken live on air during the Tiger's Eye radio show on SSR. The link will take you to SSN's Tiger's Eye page which includes a link to the SSR website and the Tiger's Eye podcast, the text of which will be posted on the ArtWatch subforum after the show itself. Roareye will give his opinion on the track and his thoughts, however resident musician Urtheart will be creating the detailed critique. (Will first appear on 1st February 2008)
UPDATED ON: The closest Friday to the 1st of every month.

=WriteWatch=
Violet will be critiquing the writings of those who create poetry and prose on SSN. This is a monthly event which will focus on one or two specific writers and several pieces of their written artwork. (Will first appear on February the 8th 2008)
UPDATED ON: The 8th of every month

=GameWatch=
Urtheart will be critiquing one or two fangames and giving them critique. This is a monthly event which will look into programming and mostly concept and game design.
UPDATED ON: The 15th of every month

=ArtWatch=
Strong Bad will be critiquing artwork by those who create traditional and digital artwork. This will usually happen every other month (With the missing month being a SpriteWatch) except every now and then might be merged with SpriteWatch if a particular artist works in both mediums.
UPDATED ON: The 24th of each alternative month

=SpriteWatch=
Strong Bad will be critiquing artwork by those who create sprite and pixel artwork. This will usually happen every other month (With the missing month being an ArtWatch) except every now and then might be merged with ArtWatch if a particular artist works in both mediums.
UPDATED ON: The 24th of each alternative month

We have plans to update the ArtWatch page on SSN too, by keeping the main page the same as it is now, but also having working links to pages Archiving only a specific type of ArtWatch (So you don't have to browse through old GrooveWatch updates when looking for SpriteWatch etc for example).
Please also feel free to browse the content of SSN as we work our testicles off (Yes even Violet's ;p) to make the site more comprehensive and detailed for this year.
